Bevchains new automated facility featuring the FROMM FA7 Series

Case Study

Installation Spotlight: FA7 Series Automatic Inline Rotary Arm wrapping machines at Bevchain

As part of a major automation project, FROMM recently completed the installation and commissioning of two FA7 Series Rotating Arm wrapping systems at Bevchain’s state-of-the-art distribution centre in Lidcombe, NSW. Bevchain, a division of the Linfox Group, appointed Swisslog to create the brand new automated facility to service high volume customers including Coles and Woolworths. The facility required a robust and high-speed end of line packaging solution to complement its fully automated warehouse operations.

Meeting High Volume Demands with Intelligent Design

To support Bevchain’s complex logistics and high throughput requirements, FROMM was engaged to deliver an advanced wrapping system capable of handling up to 100 pallets per hour per line. The solution needed to cater to variable pallet sizes and weights, all while maintaining high levels of load integrity and efficiency.

Our FA7 Series system, known for its durability and precision, was selected for the job. Installed at the central connection point of the facility’s automated system, the twin FA7 wrappers form an integral part of the end-of-line packaging process, ensuring each pallet is securely wrapped for transport to supermarkets, retail outlets, pubs, clubs, and restaurants across the country.

Technology That Delivers Results

The FA7 Rotating Arm Wrapper is engineered for high-speed operation, featuring adjustable wrapping speeds of up to 35 RPM. Unlike traditional turntable wrappers, the FA7 keeps the pallet stationary while the arm rotates around it—ideal for unstable or heavy loads. This design ensures safe and consistent wrapping, even at high volumes.

A key feature of the system is its 200% pre-stretch film delivery capability. This not only optimises film usage but also results in significant cost savings, reducing film consumption and waste—an important consideration for both cost management and environmental sustainability. Additionally, the inclusion of an optional contrast plate creates a clean, consistent film seal, eliminating stretch film dags and improving presentation.

Collaboration for Seamless Integration

The project was delivered in close collaboration with the Swisslog and Bevchain teams, with all performance parameters met and installation completed on schedule. The wrapping systems now operate seamlessly within the broader automation workflow, contributing to faster processing times, improved pallet stability, and enhanced workplace safety.

Results That Speak for Themselves

The successful commissioning of the FA7 Series at Bevchain has resulted in:

  • Increased pallet throughput

  • Improved load containment and product protection

  • Reduced stretch film usage and packaging costs

  • Enhanced workplace safety

  • Sustainable packaging outcomes
