Automatic Wrapping & Strapping Solution for Spare Parts…

Case Study
Distributor

FROMM partnered with a multinational spare parts company to review their packaging processes. With COVID-19 on the rise, many processes were putting both employees and employers at risk due to the social distancing rules. The workers are crammed into small spaces handling heavy and bulky packages. Two people worked closely together in the packaging area: one person closing the box lid, while the other lifted it onto a pallet.

Over time, multiple boxes were stacked to create the final pallet, which was then secured with strapping and stretch wrapping, all done by hand. This setup raised several workplace safety concerns that didn't follow social distancing guidelines.

Automatic Wrapping & Strapping Machine Solution

FROMM Packaging Australia worked with the customer to engineer a solution that included Automatic Inline Wrapping & Strapping Machine. As demonstrated in the video, a small automatic strapping machine is used to close box lids, while a pallet dispenser pushes out a pallet. A robot then picks up the boxes and arranges them in a column stacking pattern to build the pallet. Once that's done, the pallet goes through the automatic strapping and automatic wrapping machines to secure the cargo.

The whole process is manages by just one person who uses a forklift to remove pallets, load empty pallets into the dispenser, and handle the replenishment of consumables.

Overall, the solution has led to a huge improvement in operations and addressed key issues of social distancing, workplace safety, and product & load integrity, and delivered additional improvements of a reduction in plastic and a lower risk of transport damage.
